What's included in Free, Silver, Gold, and Business?

Free gives you the live 3D globe, upcoming launches timeline, and community sightings (read-only). Silver and Gold unlock thermal detection layers, AR Sky View, push notifications, and higher rate limits. Business adds the data API, webhooks, and account management — it's sales-led; email sales@launchdetect.com.

How do I upgrade or change plans on iOS?

In the app, open the drawer → Account → Manage Subscription. On iOS, this opens Apple's subscription management where you can upgrade, downgrade, change billing period (monthly ↔ annual), or cancel. Apple handles the payment.

You can also manage it directly in Settings → [your Apple ID] → Subscriptions → LaunchDetect.

How do I cancel my subscription?

On iOS: Settings → [your Apple ID] → Subscriptions → LaunchDetect → Cancel Subscription. Your access continues until the end of the current billing period.

On the web (legacy Stripe subscribers): Sign in at launchdetect.com/signin, open Account, and click Manage Billing.

Apple processes all iOS refunds. To request one, visit reportaproblem.apple.com.

I was charged but the app still shows me as Free.

This is almost always a sync lag between Apple and RevenueCat. Try this in order:

  1. Force-close and re-open the app.
  2. Sign out and back in (Account → Sign Out).
  3. Tap Restore Purchases on the subscription screen.

If it still won't unlock after 30 minutes, email connect@launchdetect.com with your Apple receipt and the email on your LaunchDetect account — we'll reconcile manually.

Account

How do I delete my account?

In the app: drawer → Account → Delete Account. Type the confirmation phrase and submit. We immediately queue a server-side cascade delete of your profile, sightings, saved locations, and notification preferences.

If you can't access the app, email connect@launchdetect.com from the address on file and we'll process it manually within 7 days.

Cancelling an active subscription is a separate step — do that in Apple's subscription settings before deleting your account.

I forgot my password.

On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password? — we'll email a reset link. If it doesn't arrive within 5 minutes, check spam, then email support.

How do I change the email on my account?

Email changes require verification of both addresses. Send a message from your current email to connect@launchdetect.com and we'll coordinate the swap.

AR Sky View & Tracking

What is AR Sky View and why does it need camera access?

AR Sky View overlays satellites and spacecraft currently passing overhead onto your phone's camera feed, so you can point your device at the sky and see what's up there in real time. It uses the camera, accelerometer, gyroscope, and compass to align the overlay.

The camera feed is never recorded, uploaded, or inspected. Everything runs on-device.

Why isn't the AR overlay aligning with the sky?

Most alignment issues are magnetometer (compass) calibration:

  • Move away from metal objects, speakers, and power cables.
  • Calibrate the compass: Apple Maps → tap the location dot → follow the figure-8 instructions.
  • Return to AR Sky View and the overlay should snap to the correct heading.

At high latitudes or indoors, GPS accuracy can also drift. Step outside with a clear view of the horizon.

How do I see launches that are visible from my location?

Open the launch timeline → tap any upcoming launch → Visible From Here. We compute whether the rocket's trajectory will be above your horizon at launch time (requires Location permission). We'll tell you the azimuth, elevation, and start/peak time for your specific location.

Notifications

I'm not getting push notifications for launches.

Check in this order:

  1. iOS Settings → Notifications → LaunchDetect → Allow Notifications is ON.
  2. In the app: Account → Notifications — make sure at least one category (Launches, Sightings, System) is enabled.
  3. Check that your Silver or Gold subscription is active (Account → Subscription).
  4. Try a fresh sign-out and sign-in; we re-register the device token on sign-in.

If none of that fixes it, email support with your Apple ID email and we'll check the push logs.

How do I stop notifications without uninstalling?

Either disable notifications in iOS Settings → Notifications → LaunchDetect, or toggle individual categories off in the app (Account → Notifications). You don't have to delete your account or cancel your subscription.

Permissions

Which permissions does LaunchDetect request, and why?
  • Location (When In Use): "Visible From Here" trajectory calculations and nearest-launch-site suggestions. Never tracked in background.
  • Camera: AR Sky View overlay only. Never recorded or uploaded.
  • Motion & Orientation: AR Sky View pointing direction.
  • Photo Library: Attaching a photo to a community sighting you submit.
  • Notifications: Launch alerts and sighting replies.
  • Face ID / Touch ID: Optional. Unlocks the app without re-entering your password.

Each is requested at the point of use, not at install time. You can revoke any of them later in iOS Settings → LaunchDetect without losing access to the rest of the app.

Data & Privacy

What data do you collect?

Account basics (email, hashed password, subscription state), content you explicitly create (community sightings, saved locations), and anonymous diagnostic data for crash reporting. No IDFA. No cross-app tracking. No ad networks. Ever.

Can I download a copy of my data?

Yes. Email privacy@launchdetect.com from the address on your account and we'll send a JSON export within 30 days (faster if we're not buried). GDPR, CCPA, and similar state-law rights are all honored globally — we don't gate this by jurisdiction.

Community Sightings

How do I submit a launch sighting?

Open a launch you saw → I Saw This → add a photo (optional), your observed direction, and a short note. Submissions are moderated before going live to prevent spam and bad data. Gold members can also submit without needing approval after a reputation threshold.

How do I report abuse, spam, or incorrect content?

Tap the menu on any sighting → Report. Or email moderation@launchdetect.com with a link or screenshot. See our Community Guidelines for what's allowed.

Technical Issues

The app is crashing or freezing.

Try: force-close → reopen → sign out → sign back in. If it persists, tell us:

  • iOS version and iPhone model
  • App version (Account → About)
  • What screen you were on when it crashed

The 3D globe won't load or is stuck loading.

The globe streams terrain tiles from our CDN — if your network is blocking large transfers, it stalls. Try switching between Wi-Fi and cellular. If on a corporate network, the CDN domain (*.cloudfront.net) may be blocked.

Business & Data API

How do I get access to the LaunchDetect data API?

The data API is part of the Business tier — real-time detection events, webhook delivery, and historical exports. It's sales-led because we scope each account to your use case. Email sales@launchdetect.com with your team, volume, and what you're building.

Can I integrate LaunchDetect into my own app or dashboard?

Yes, under the Business tier. We provide an OpenAPI spec, example webhooks, and a sandbox key. Commercial and research use are both fine — the tier is the same, pricing varies by volume.
